Three forms of ink drying
Ink drying more complex, there are the following three forms.
Osmotic drying. Some of the binders in the ink penetrate into the substrate, and the other part is fixed on the surface of the substrate together with the pigment and dry. The non thermosetting rotary ink used in high-speed web press is mainly used to print newspapers and periodicals.
Oxidation polymerization drying. The binder in the ink polymerizes with oxygen in the air, forming a film on the substrate surface and drying. Offset bright resin ink, bright color, good gloss, mainly oxidation polymerization drying, used to print high-grade fine offset products.
Volatilization drying. Part of the ink binder, volatile to the air, the remaining binder and pigment fixed on the substrate surface and dry. Gravure printing ink is made of volatile solvent, which is harmful to human body. At present, water-based ink with water as solvent has been developed for gravure printing and flexographic printing, which reduces environmental pollution and has a bright future. Volatile dry ink is especially suitable for printing non absorbent film materials, such as plastic film, metal foil, etc.
In addition, the drying of ink has ultraviolet, infrared, heat curing and other forms.
